Pink Stinks!

Discovered these guys today.

Pinkstinks is a campaign that targets the products, media and marketing that prescribe heavily stereotyped and limiting roles to young girls. We believe that all children – girls and boys – are affected by the ‘pinkification’ of girlhood. Our aim is to challenge and reverse this growing trend. We also promote media literacy, self-esteem, positive body image and female role models for kids.

Their motto is ‘There’s more than one way to be a girl’ and they have a number of campaigns trying to make marketing represent this fact.

So what do you think? Is the world a little too pink these days?

The Quietest Place on Earth

The World Record Holder of the Quietest Place On Earth has been found to have quite strong affects on the human mind. NASA have tested human reactions to the room:

What they’ve found is that when all outside noise is removed from an enclosure, human hearing will do its best to find something to listen to. In a room where almost 100% of sound is muted, people begin to hear things like their own heartbeat at a greatly amplified volume. As the minutes tick by in absolute quiet, the human mind begins to lose its grip, causing test subjects to hallucinate.

The idea that our minds try to find something to listen to made me think about all the rough times, when many people have tried to “help” me by giving me their opinion. When it can appear that God is silent, we can often reach out for any voice – no matter what it is saying – just to fill the void. The challenge is to sit and wait with no sound but your amplified hearbeat – waiting for the still small voice of truth.
